Overview
Char Dham Yatra is a religious pilgrimage in India that involves visiting four Hindu shrines located in the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand. These four shrines are Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, which are considered to be the most sacred places in Hinduism. The journey to Char Dham is believed to cleanse the soul of the pilgrim and bring them closer to God. The yatra usually starts from Haridwar or Rishikesh and takes around 10 to 12 days to complete, covering a distance of approximately 1,600 km. The best time to undertake the Char Dham Yatra is between April to November when the weather is favorable.
Highlights
- Yamunotri: This is the first destination of the yatra, located at an altitude of 3,293 meters above sea level. It is the source of the Yamuna river, and the main attraction is the Yamunotri Temple.
